Scope of the site:Strumviews.com will be an affiliate marketing website that offers quality, in-depth reviews of different guitars so that interested buyers can get a complete feel for the listed guitars and feel confident about their online purchase before they make the purchase. The site will start relatively small and will only consist of about 3-5 reviews of guitars at different user and price levels. As you follow this process, you should be able to have enough knowledge to replicate the process (with a few aids perhaps).
Here's what we will demonstrate from start to finish:
1- We'll build the website (graphics, pages, etc)
2- We'll build the reviews
3- We'll implement affiliate links in the website so people can make purchases
4- We'll build SEO and other traffic to the site
5- We'll turn the site into a profitable affiliate website while you watch and participate
To complete Phase 1- Please complete these simple steps:
Step 1: Critique each logo you see below and vote on your favorite logo in your comment (must have a registered account here). Your comment must be a minimum of 2 or 3 complete sentences, must give feedback on each logo design, and you must clearly state which one best matches the "Strumviews.com" concept described above.
* not required- but you can add a link to your site if you have one (it must be a family-friendly site)
Step 2: You only need to do at least 1 of the following -pick one to qualify- but you can do more to make it more exciting:
Tweet this page (can use the "add to any" button below) after you make your comment and invite others in your tweet
Post an invitation of this contest on your facebook account and invite others to join the contest
Post this contest with a link to this page on a popular contest blog site: to find a contest blog site, simply type in a Google search using one or more of the following: contest blogs, contest sites, competition blogs, competition sites, sweepstakes blogs, sweepstakes sites, add your contest, add your competition, add your give-a-way, add your sweepstakes
Step 3:Send us a quick note via email here telling us you completed phase 1:
Thanks Keith and Robin. Before you guys made these comments- I actually started working on some banners last night incorporating 4g . . . we were not set on 4g (and still may throw another in the mix from above), but check out what this logo looks like glassed over a bit and on different textured backgrounds (a world of difference!)
Robin- I agree that having a faded blue and rusty amber orange website would look fairly tacky - so I am in line with you there- just wait until you see it dressed up! (a nice blue / black / and white site will go well with that funky orange)
I like 4g. Nice contrast and easy to read. Not sure I am a fan of the general color scheme. Make sure you are thinking forward to your website. I think at somepoint you are going to want to match the logo colors with your website colors. Do you really want your website to be a combo of the colors in your logo?
4g does it for me. That is the one that really has the sophisticated look and the Strumviews really pops out nicely in black on the amber background. The light on light and the dark on dark versions just don't seem to have contrast that grabs the eye.
Hi Ann- Thanks for the feedback. I agree- Originally #1 was going to be kind of a neon look but I just threw some sketches together to get things headed in a direction to get some variety and feedback. I am assuming you like the original #4 instead of a variation. . . #2 is clean and solid too- Thanks again-
Aaron
I like 4 the best. Love the graphics. 2 would be my next choice because it so simple and concise. It gets my attention. 1 kind of seems like it is missing something. 3 would be nice with something besides a white background I think.
We now have 8 variations on logo 4. My personal opinion is that 4 f and 4 h do not have enough contrast with the amber (orange) and white to be clear- it's too difficult to read (compared to the others) because the amber and white are both too close in "lightness" - not enough contrast.
Thanks Monty (Bill) - When I made this logo- I used the color wheel (complimentary colors concept) because I was working with 2 colors. One can also use triads if using 3 colors to make the colors visually balanced and appealing.
See this wheel- that logo you suggest follows some simple "design rules" because the flinty blue and faded orange are complimentary- but something with the words makes it a little hard for me to read- It seems a little too dark to me but the colors follow the "rules".
Try the original one with the lighter buildings? Maybe that would make the Strumviews pop out with the lighter background. I like 4D best, but maybe with the original amber brown color of Strumviews?
I kept looking at them and started to get that almost dizzy feeling on the variations, sort of the optical illusion type of dizzy. Maybe make the Strumviews red (or some other color) so it stands out a little more and pulls your eyes away from all the lines of it.
Hi Keith- It may be because they are so small and close together too-
When I get a chance - I might enlarge them to see if that makes a difference first because the variations are smaller than the others. Again- great feedback!
Ok- I enlarged them and spaced them some more. If you right click on any of the logos, you can open any of them in a new window or new tab to view them separately too.
I like 4. It makes me feel like I am sitting in a jazz club, smoking a cigar and enjoying a glass of strong chianti while listening to some amazing acoustic guitar sounds.
Thanks Keith- we'll try some variations on logo 4 as well.
OK- we added some variations on Logo 4 and faded the buildings to make it look more like wood grain / buildings and to help see which one was easy to read and also clean and balanced. Let us know your thoughts! Thanks
Aaron
I like the sophisticated look of Logo 4 also, but as mentioned it is a little strain to read the Strumviews. Maybe try the word in a different color and/or font.
Hi Keith- I agree - with the changes, it appears that logo 3 looks more balanced or distinct when it is all not the same color. Additionally, I still agree with your first comment that logo #2 is clean and instantly recognizable.
Mont0230 - Glad we have a dissenter! you had said, "Knowing what the logo was for would help me determine what feel was most appropriate." Actually- the description of the site purpose is above the logos on this page under this:
"Scope of the site: Strumviews.com will be an affiliate marketing website. . . ." and so on.
I also like #4 but would prefer it if the words were a little easier to read. . .
Thanks for the feedback- this is helpful and now we're more confused than when we started!
-Aaron
Knowing what the logo was for would help me determine what feel was most appropriate. That said, I prefer #4. I like the font and the way the buildings work with the guitar.
I like the 2nd one first and the 4th one next of new ones. With that change I would like logo #3 better. The color difference seems to make it flow better to my eyes.
I find logo 3 to be the most current in design. It comes off the page while the others tend to be stationary. I like the V of views holding up the guitar. It also has the guitar in position for playing. I would try using red instead of blue.
Hi Bob, Thanks for the feedback. For those of you who don't know Bob- he is a real artist! You can check out his great stuff here ==> http://adonaiartdesigns.com/ Also Bob- did you mean trying to make the V of the Views red, the whole word "views" red, or everything red? Thanks again- Aaron
I like logo number 2 best as it is clean looking and instantly recognizable once seen. Number 4 shows a bit more sophistication, but actually is not as striking as number 2. Number 1 and 3 are a bit harder to read, with number 3 being a disjointed sort of look. Which is Ok if you want to emphasize the Strum. Definitely number 2 as it is more simple and striking being white on black.
Thanks Mark1 and Keith. This feedback is exactly the kind we are looking for! It is always valuable to see how other people see it as it gives us a more balanced view. Also- don't forget to share the contest by email, facecbook, or another method using the simple little "share/save" button above (right below the logos and picture of that scary looking guy named Aaron). Great feedback so far!

I like logo 2 and 3. The first logo needs some help - it might look better as a neon sign or something. Logo 2 is the cleanest in my opinion, but logo 3 seems to represent somehow that there is some kind of review because of the "v" looking like a check mark. I like logo 4 but the color makes it a bit hard to read. That's it for now.

I should clarify...
that I mean the colors that are currently in 4g. Not sure that burnt-orange color would be very effective for a website.
